What Savannah Says

β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…
"We have a 200-year-old live oak that frames our entire courtyard, and we were terrified to let anyone near it. Savannah Tree Experts sent a certified arborist who walked us through every cut before they made it. The crew showed up on time, protected the brick path with plywood, and left the yard cleaner than they found it. Six months later the canopy looks fuller than it has in years. I cannot recommend them highly enough."

"A water oak split during a summer storm and dropped half its weight onto our garage. I called at 9pm and a crew was at the house by 7am the next morning with a crane. They worked with my insurance adjuster, photographed everything, and had the tree gone and the roof tarped before lunch. Fair price for emergency work and zero damage to the rest of the yard. These are the people you want on speed dial during hurricane season."

"I got three quotes for removing two dead pines and grinding the stumps. Savannah Tree Experts was not the cheapest, but they were the only company that pulled a permit, carried real insurance certificates, and explained exactly how they would protect my fence and irrigation. The job took one day, the cleanup was spotless, and they even raked pine straw out of my gutters as a courtesy. Honest, professional, and clearly experienced with Savannah properties."

Rooted in Savannah Since 2009

Savannah Tree Experts is a family-owned, fully licensed and insured tree service based in the Historic District. For more than fifteen years our certified arborists have cared for the live oaks, magnolias, and pines that make coastal Georgia one of the most beautiful regions in the country.

Coastal tree care is its own discipline. Spanish moss, salt air, sandy soils, and the heritage tree ordinances that protect Savannah's canopy all require an arborist who works here every day. Our crews are trained in ANSI A300 pruning standards and follow the Savannah MPC permit process for every regulated tree.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you specialize in live oaks and other Savannah heritage trees?

Yes. Live oaks are the signature tree of the Lowcountry and they need very different care than fast-growing species. Our crews are trained in heritage tree pruning standards, we follow ANSI A300 cuts, and we never top live oaks. For any tree protected under the Savannah tree ordinance we coordinate with the Metropolitan Planning Commission before work begins.

Is Spanish moss harmful to my trees?

Spanish moss is an air plant, not a parasite, so it does not feed on the tree. However, heavy moss loads can add wind resistance during storms and shade out interior foliage. We typically thin moss on stressed or storm-prone trees and leave it alone on healthy ones, since it is part of what makes our canopy iconic.

When should I prepare my trees for hurricane season?

Schedule an inspection by late spring, ideally April or May, so any structural pruning is complete before the active season ramps up in August. We look for codominant stems, included bark, dead limbs over structures, and root issues. Pre-season pruning dramatically reduces storm damage and insurance claims.

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Savannah?

Often yes. Trees on private property above a certain DBH, and any tree in the public right of way, generally require a permit from the MPC. Heritage trees have additional protections. We handle the permit process for our customers and will not remove a regulated tree without one.

How deep do you grind stumps and can I replant in the same spot?

We grind 8 to 12 inches below grade as a standard, deeper on request. That is sufficient for sod, flower beds, and most landscaping. If you want to replant a tree in the exact same spot we recommend full stump excavation and fresh topsoil, because old root mass and grind chips make a poor planting medium.

How fast can you respond to an emergency call?

For storm and emergency calls in the Savannah metro we aim for same-day response, and for active hazards like trees on homes or blocking roads we are typically on site within two to four hours. During major hurricane events we triage by severity but every call is returned within the day.
